Toyota has officially revealed Europe’s cheapest electric car, showcasing the Urban SUV concept at its annual Brussels event. This compact crossover marks a major step in Toyota’s electrification strategy, with the production version scheduled for release in the first half of 2024.

By 2026, the Japanese manufacturer plans to launch 15 fully electric models in Europe, six of which will be developed on dedicated EV platforms. The Urban SUV will play a central role in this roadmap, aiming to provide an affordable alternative to established electric SUVs.

Dimensions and technical details

The Toyota Urban SUV concept fits into the crossover segment, with a length of 4,300 mm, width of 1,820 mm, and height of 1,620 mm. Customers will be able to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, hinting at either a single-motor or dual-motor setup. Battery specifications remain undisclosed for now.

Design close to production

Although presented as a prototype, the Urban SUV’s design looks nearly production-ready. Only minor adjustments are expected before market launch, such as replacing traditional side mirrors with camera systems. The production model is also likely to offer customization options tailored to a wide range of buyers.

Commercial debut in 2024

The all-new Toyota Urban SUV is scheduled to hit European roads in the first half of 2024, reinforcing the company’s ambition to bring Europe’s cheapest electric car to market.
