Cadillac Escalade-V: The Sleeper That Owners Wanted Loud
Picture three Escalades on a school-run parking lot in Dallas. Same black trim. Same body sides. Same arches. One of them costs $44,000 more than the others. Only its owner knows.
That is the Cadillac Escalade-V in a nutshell. It carries a hand-built 682 hp supercharged V8, Brembo brakes and all-wheel drive. Yet it looks almost like a Platinum Sport. A German atelier thinks that is a problem worth solving.
A sleeper by design
The silence was deliberate. Robert Hunwick, who styled the first Escalade-V, described the brief as a sleeper. Subdued. Dialed back. He has also said that the early design visions were far bolder.
So Cadillac chose restraint. The V wears the Sport’s trim. Width, body sides and wheel arches match the rest of the range. The facelifted 2025–2027 model adds only a few clues:
- Vertical headlights
- 24-inch wheels
- A V badge on the front doors
That is a short list for a $44,000 premium. Magazines have pointed out that the cosmetic gap between the V and the lower trims is small. Owners say it more simply. They recognise the V by the sound when it starts.
There is a real contradiction here. The Escalade sells because it makes a statement. The V, visually, declines to make one. Buyers of Mercedes-AMG and BMW M models expect the difference to show. On the Escalade-V, Cadillac left that decision to the owner.
LARTE Design’s answer: the ESTHETE programme
Alexej Janowski founded LARTE Design in Germany. His studio now offers the ESTHETE programme for the 2025–2027 Escalade-V ESV. The idea is the opposite of a sleeper.
“There are owners for whom the sleeper is exactly right, and Cadillac built it well for them,” Janowski says. “Then there are the ones who bought the top of the range so that it would be seen. Wanting 682 hp to look like 682 hp is the logic of the purchase.”
The package works with three visual layers:
- Shape: the carbon parts change the proportions.
- Material: every component stays in visible dry carbon.
- Colour: black above, deep red below.
Together they say one thing. This one is the V.
Black over red, carbon left as carbon
The body is split at the beltline. Gloss black sits above it. Deep red sits below it. The roof, pillars and hood surround read as one dark mass over a red base.
Every ESTHETE component stays in visible 100% dry carbon. It is not painted over. The weave shows. That makes the kit a third material on the car instead of something that disappears into the paint.
What the kit includes
| Area | Component |
|---|---|
| Front | Vented hood, carbon grille surround, front splitter with integrated light strips |
| Sides | Wheel-arch extensions, side sills |
| Rear | Tailgate trim, diffuser with four integrated brake lights and quad exhaust tips, upper spoiler |
The vented hood is the centrepiece. It is the one element on the car that speaks about the engine. The grille surround and the splitter rebuild the face.
The arch extensions and sills do a different job. They gather the long ESV body and make it look wider and lower. The wheels stay at factory size. According to the studio, warranty and specification stay untouched.
Bolt-on, not cut-up
The installation method matters for any owner of a car this expensive. Every component uses factory mounting points. Nothing is drilled. Nothing is cut.
That has practical benefits:
- The kit can come off again.
- The body panels stay intact.
- The car keeps its original structure.
It also keeps the engine and electronics out of the story. The programme is visual. It does not touch the supercharged V8.
A short technical note for used-car buyers follows.
ℹ️ Technical Note: A body kit does not change engine output. But a 682 hp supercharged truck deserves a proper health check before you buy it. Read the stored and pending codes on every module, not only the engine. A bidirectional tool such as the THINKCAR THINKSCAN 689BT can read live data and run basic tests on several systems. That matters on a heavy, high-output SUV.
Clay first, then the file
The design process is the part that sets this studio apart. The hood and the arches were shaped in clay before anyone modelled them in 3D.
Janowski explains why. “A 3D file is precise and it is fast, and it will happily give you a proportion that is wrong. Clay cannot lie. You walk around the model, you see the arch from the height of a child and from the height of a man, and you feel where the line should go.”
He adds that the studio will keep modelling in clay as long as he runs it. The software comes after.
This matters on a vehicle as large as the ESV. A big surface hides mistakes in a screen render. In the real world, a wrong line on a hood or an arch is obvious from ten metres away. Clay forces the designer to see it early.
The result, in the studio’s words, follows the Escalade’s own character instead of fighting it. It is the V as Cadillac’s early sketches might have shown it.
Made in Germany
LARTE Design describes itself as a German atelier that builds TÜV-certified dry-carbon body kits. The full cycle runs in one place:
- Clay model
- 3D file
- Autoclave
All of it happens at the studio in Erkrath, near Düsseldorf.
The range is not limited to Cadillac. The studio also works on the Lamborghini Urus, Mercedes-AMG G-Class, GT, GLE and GLS, and several BMW X and 7 Series models. Porsche Cayenne and 911 are on the list too. The Escalade is one of the few American names there.
A family car with a loud streak
The Escalade-V ESV is bought as a family car. It is big, comfortable and built to carry people. That is the school-run reality.
Janowski argues that this is no reason to stay quiet. “A family car has every right to stir emotion, for the whole family, the dog included. An investment in design is an investment in the pleasure you get from the car every day. The engine is already there. We make it visible.”
The studio delivers a personal configuration within 24 hours. It includes renders, a timeline and pricing.
Our take
This is a niche product. It is not for everyone, and it is not meant to be.
Two kinds of owners exist. The first buys the V because nobody else can tell. The second buys it so that everyone can. Cadillac served the first group very well. The second group had to look elsewhere.
The logic is easy to follow. If you pay a $44,000 premium over a Platinum Sport, you may want the car to show it. Black over red with bare carbon does that. Whether you like the look is a matter of taste.
What is clear is the method. Bolt-on parts, factory mounting points, no cuts, and no changes to wheel size. For an owner worried about warranty and resale, that is the right approach for this type of work.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much more does the Escalade-V cost than the Platinum Sport?
The gap is about $44,000. That buys the 682 hp supercharged V8, Brembo brakes and the V-specific details.
How can you tell an Escalade-V from a Platinum Sport?
Look for the vertical headlights, the 24-inch wheels and the V badge on the front doors. The trim, body sides and arches are otherwise the same.
Does the LARTE kit require drilling or cutting?
No. The studio states that every component uses factory mounting points. Nothing is drilled or cut.
Do the wheel-arch extensions change the wheel size?
No. The wheels stay at factory size. The extensions only change how wide and low the body looks.
Is the kit made of real carbon?
Yes. The components are 100% dry carbon, left visible instead of painted over. They are produced in an autoclave at the studio in Erkrath, Germany.
Does the kit increase engine power?
No. The ESTHETE programme is visual only. The 682 hp V8 stays as Cadillac built it.
How long does it take to get a quote?
The studio promises a personal configuration with renders, timeline and pricing within 24 hours.
