
🚛 What is a long vehicle
A long vehicle refers to any single vehicle or combination (tractor + semi-trailer, articulated bus, heavy truck) that exceeds the standard legal length allowed for its type under European traffic law.
According to EU Directive 96/53/EC and national traffic codes, a long vehicle is:

a single vehicle over 12 meters long;

or a vehicle combination exceeding 16.5–18.75 meters, depending on its configuration.

These vehicles must be clearly marked with a yellow “LONG VEHICLE” sign and equipped with reflective strips for visibility.

Long vehicles must:

maintain greater following distances;

avoid routes marked with “No long vehicles” restrictions.
For oversized or special transport, an escort and special authorization are mandatory to ensure road safety.
