BMW Will Replace the X7 in 2027. This Kit Was Built to Outlast It.
Three dates tell the whole story, and none of them belong to LARTE Design.
On 13 April 2022, BMW gave the X7 its first and, as it turns out, only facelift. On 31 March 2026, Mercedes-Benz updated the GLS for the second time in the same window. Then, on 12 March 2026, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed at the company’s Annual Conference that the next X7 will not be another mid-cycle refresh — it will be an entirely new generation, built at Plant Spartanburg, revealed in 2027, and delivered from model year 2028.
So while Mercedes revised its rival twice, BMW touched the X7 exactly once, and only at the front. Owners of the current G07 are now looking at another year, at minimum, before anything genuinely new arrives — and even then, it arrives as a replacement, not an update.
LARTE Design finished its own answer before that announcement ever landed.
A Facelift That Never Reached the Back of the Car
The April 2022 update was, in practical terms, a front-end job. New split headlights, a redesigned grille, a curved digital display, and the S68 V8 landing in the M60i. Walk around to the back of the car, though, and almost nothing changed. The bootlid, the taillight shapes, the diffuser area, and the tail-light line have been carried, unaltered, on every X7 built since 2019.
That’s seven years of the same rear end on a car positioned as BMW’s flagship SUV.
LARTE Design’s exterior programme goes directly after that gap. The kit rebuilds three specific rear-end components:
- A carbon rear diffuser
- Rear bumper overlays with integrated elerons
- A roof spoiler that closes off the roofline
None of this is described by LARTE as cosmetic add-on work. The company frames it as geometry correction — reshaping surfaces the factory design left untouched since the model’s launch.
The Hood Is a Replacement Panel, Not a Cover
The centerpiece of the programme is the hood, and it’s worth being precise about what that means. This isn’t a carbon overlay bonded onto the factory panel. It’s a full replacement hood — sculpted, vented, molded in 100% dry carbon fiber, and designed to bolt directly onto the X7’s original mounting points.
ℹ️ Technical Note: Dry carbon fiber differs from the more common “wet lay-up” carbon seen on lower-cost aftermarket parts. The carbon fiber sheets are pre-impregnated with resin (prepreg) and cured under heat and pressure inside an autoclave, producing a lighter, stiffer, more dimensionally stable panel with a tighter weave pattern.
Because it replaces rather than covers the stock hood, the new panel changes the car’s front-end proportions and stance the moment it’s fitted — before any other visual element on the car registers.
Colour Baked Into the Carbon Itself
Both demonstrator vehicles in this programme use coloured dry carbon, meaning the tint is introduced during the layup stage, before the autoclave cure — so the colour is embedded in the weave rather than applied as a surface coat or tinted clear layer afterward.
From that shared process, the two builds diverge:
| Build | Carbon Colour | Body Paint | Visual Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olive | Green dry carbon | Matching green paint | Carbon and body paint blend into a single continuous tone |
| Pearl White | Violet dry carbon | Pearl white paint | Every carbon panel stands out as a distinct material against the body |
Classic black weave is still available as a standard option — it’s simply one choice among several now, rather than the default.
Full Component List
The programme covers ten parts, all engineered to bolt onto the X7’s factory attachment points with no cutting and no structural modification:
- Carbon hood
- Grille surround
- Front bumper overlay
- Front bumper splitter
- Upper front bumper inserts
- Carbon mirror caps
- Side sill pads
- Rear bumper overlays with elerons
- Roof spoiler
- Carbon rear diffuser
Forged 23-inch wheels are sold separately as an option. LARTE states the kit is compatible with all BMW X7 G07 model years from 2022 through 2026, across both Luxury and M Sport trims — spanning the 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo inline-six in the xDrive40i up to the 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8 in the M60i. Parking sensors, cameras, and the factory driver-assistance systems remain fully functional after installation.
Why Timing Is the Actual Selling Point
Here’s the part that matters more than any single component. Factory model generations get replaced every six to eight years — that’s just the industry cycle. An aftermarket exterior programme isn’t bound by that clock. A G07 finished with LARTE Design’s carbon hood, diffuser, and custom colourway doesn’t suddenly become “last year’s car” the moment BMW unveils the second-generation X7 in 2027.
That’s because it was never a variant of the factory design to begin with. It’s a separate decision, built on top of the platform rather than tied to its release calendar.
Put simply: BMW facelifted this SUV once and will replace it in 2027. This programme was already finished — with its own hood, its own rear-end geometry, and its own colour — before that replacement was even confirmed.
Built in Erkrath, Near Düsseldorf
The design and production process runs entirely in Germany: 3D scanning of the vehicle, CAD modelling, clay modelling for surface refinement, carbon layup, and hand-finishing, all completed at LARTE Design’s atelier in Erkrath. The company positions this as its “Customization Level 2” approach — personalization built directly into structural exterior components, with colour developed jointly for paint and carbon rather than chosen as an afterthought.
LARTE Design also produces TÜV-certified dry-carbon body kits for the Lamborghini Urus, the Mercedes-AMG G-Class, GT, GLE and GLS, the BMW X5M, X6, X6M, X7, i7, XM and 7 Series, the Porsche Cayenne and 911, and the Cadillac Escalade. The atelier was founded by Alexej Janowski.
