How to Properly Remove Gasoline Fuel Injectors

Fuel injectors are key to any petrol engine’s performance. If your car starts hard, misfires, or uses more fuel than usual, one or more injectors may be faulty or clogged. Here’s how to safely remove them step by step.

✅ 1. Disconnect the battery

Always start by cutting off power to avoid electric shock or fuel spray. Remove the negative battery terminal.

✅ 2. Depressurize the fuel system

  • Pull out the fuel pump fuse.

  • Start the engine and let it die naturally.

  • This relieves pressure from the fuel rail.

✅ 3. Remove engine cover

Take off the plastic engine cover to access the fuel rail and injectors.

✅ 4. Unplug the injector connectors

Each injector has a plug.

  • Press the clip and pull it off carefully.

  • Do not pull by the wires.

✅ 5. Unscrew and remove the fuel rail

  • Loosen the bolts securing the fuel rail.

  • Carefully pull out the rail along with the injectors.

✅ 6. Extract the injectors

  • Grip the injector base and pull firmly but gently.

  • Use WD-40 to loosen if stuck.

  • For heavily seized injectors, use a specialized puller.

✅ 7. Clean and inspect

  • Clean the mounting area with brake cleaner or compressed air.

  • Replace the O-rings and apply light silicone grease before reinstalling.

⚠️ Safety Tip:

Never pry or hammer injectors out! Damage to the intake or injector body can lead to major engine issues.
